Expat in Greece Warns Tourists

Greece is famous for its breathtaking landscapes, rich history, and, of course, its stunning beaches. While many flock to the country during the peak summer months, there’s a hidden gem of a season that offers an even more magical experience—September.

As someone who lives in Greece, I want to share why September might just be the best time to visit this beautiful country.

The Beauty of September in Greece

On the 1st of September, we Greeks have a saying, “Καλο χειμώνα!” (Kalo Himona!), which means “Have a good winter!” Even though winter is still far off, this greeting marks the transition from the bustling summer to the more serene months ahead. September is a month of transformation in Greece, and you can feel it in the air.

I recently took a walk along a beautiful beach that, just a week ago, was crowded with sunbathers and tourists. Today, it’s almost empty, offering a tranquil escape that’s hard to find in the peak summer season. This shift is one of the reasons why I believe September is the best time to visit Greece. The weather is still warm, the sea is perfect for swimming, and the crowds have thinned out, allowing you to truly soak in the natural beauty of the place.

Why September is Ideal for Tourists

One of the key pieces of advice I often share with visitors is to avoid the summer crowds and come to Greece in September instead. Here’s why:

  1. Fewer Crowds: By September, most tourists have returned home, leaving the beaches, historical sites, and popular destinations far less crowded. This means you can enjoy a more peaceful and personal experience, whether you’re exploring ancient ruins or relaxing by the sea.
  2. Better Weather: The intense heat of July and August starts to wane in September. The temperatures are still warm enough for all your favorite summer activities, but without the oppressive heat that can make exploring uncomfortable.
  3. Extended Summer: In Greece, summer doesn’t end in August. September often feels like an extension of the summer months, with plenty of sunshine and warm days. In fact, the pleasant weather can continue into October and even November.
  4. Authentic Experience: With fewer tourists around, you get a more authentic feel of Greece. The locals are more relaxed after the busy summer months, and you can experience the country’s culture and traditions in a more intimate setting.

A Proud Moment: My Content in the British Press

Recently, my content was featured in the British press, highlighting my life as an expat in Greece. While the article focused on some fun cultural tips—like why you should never call Greek coffee “Turkish coffee”—I wish they had delved deeper into the many other aspects of life here that I share on my channel.

Despite that, I’m thrilled to see my work reaching a wider audience. I’ve always aimed to inspire others with my videos, whether they’re planning a trip to Greece, considering moving here, or just looking for a bit of escapism.

Inspiration for Your Greek Adventure

If you’re considering visiting Greece, I can’t recommend September enough. It’s a time when the country is at its best—serene, beautiful, and still brimming with life. Whether you’re planning a holiday, thinking about retiring here, or just daydreaming about a future trip, I hope my content helps you see the many sides of Greece beyond the typical summer vacation.

So, next time you’re planning a trip, remember: September is the secret month that offers the best of Greece. From the quieter beaches to the perfect weather, it’s a time that allows you to experience this incredible country in a way that’s both authentic and unforgettable.
